Then there were those who themselves shared a body type, like foal characters, and thus had their own shared actions - useful for things like the Crusaders, who could then have lots of scenes together. But the majority of background ponies had the same body type and could thus use all the same actions, and the few ponies who didn't wouldn't necessarily need the whole library of motions, if they were just there for a scene or two. You don't need to tweak six separate variations on everything. With the same body shape and size, too, all the action motions and cycles (walking, running etc) can be instantly copied between them all, and you can have any of them moving side by side without having to slow one down or speed them up due to different leg lengths. You don't have to spend time considering if one of them will be looking up at or down on another one if they're standing on the same level, which makes it easier to preset eye positions and so forth when they're only interacting with each other (i.e. True, but when all the main characters are the same size and shape it makes it easy to not worry about things like positioning when more than one of them is in a shot. G5 has all the spotlight and attention, and there's a lot more pressure. G5 kind of has the opposite problem ponies at the end of G4 were HUGE, the fan base was massive, and it wouldn't surprise me if it had returned to a notable level of profit as a house brand. It was also probably why the show writers were allowed a (somewhat) looser rein over their interpretation MLP was a long-running property, yes, but it wasn't a major brand as long as Hasbro made some money from it, the details weren't critical. G4 didn't start off from a position of particular prominence in terms of financing or resources.
